When is yard waste picked up?
Public Works will collect your yard waste every Monday morning, provided the following guidelines are followed: Yard waste includes materials such as grass clippings (excluding sod), leaves, garden debris, brush, and small trees. All yard waste must be placed in bags, securely tied, and weigh no more than 50 pounds, then set at the curb for pickup. Tree branches should be cut into lengths of 3 feet or less and bundled. Each bag or bundle must have a sticker attached, which can be purchased at City Hall for $2 each or 3 for $5. Thank you for your cooperation.
Open Burning
105.05 OPEN BURNING RESTRICTED. No person shall allow, cause or permit open burning of combustible materials where the products of combustion are emitted into the open air without passing through a chimney or stack, except that open burning is permitted in the following circumstances: – (IAC, 567-23.2[455B] and 567-100.2)
- Leaves, Branches and Other Plant Materials. Between the hours of eight o’clock (8:00) a.m. and eight o’clock (8:00) p.m. from October 1 to November 30 of each year, except for the day in October designated by the Council as Beggar’s Night, persons may burn leaves, branches or other plant material grown or deposited upon their property.
- At all other times of the year, the open burning such material is strictly prohibted, and such materical must be gathered and disposed of at sites approved by the City, composted or placed at points specified for the picking up and disposal of such material by authorized persons acting for the City. – IAC, 567-23.2[3f] and 567-20.2[455B]) (Ord 302 Dec. 2012 Supp)
