MAYOR STATEMENT:

Hello all—hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

As we all know, school is on hiatus, a lot of us are working from home, and we have at least 3 weeks of this new normal.

One thing I want to really stress is that COVID-19 can be spread by those WHO DON’T KNOW THEY HAVE IT AND SHOW NO SYMPTOMS.  If you have been in large groups of people recently, or traveled ANYWHERE for spring break, you absolutely should be self-quarantining yourself and your family for 14 days. This means no large crowds, no neighborhood play dates, etc.—do everything you can to keep yourself and your friends and neighbors safe in our community.  This is in addition to the CDC guidance of social distancing, washing hands and cleaning surfaces, avoiding groups of 10, etc.

The number of cases nationwide has risen around 30% daily the past 4-5 days, and Iowa cases continue to climb.  The only way we effectively stop the spread is to stay home and self-quarantine for 14 days.  The faster everyone does it the faster we return to normal.  If people continue to not adhere to expert recommendations (or flat out ignore them) we will be in this situation for months.

I ask all of you to sacrifice, be good neighbors, and self-quarantine for the next 2 weeks—only go places it is absolutely necessary.  Let’s all work together to get through this.  Thanks

Mayor Tony James
